Specification sheets are a primary means of providing information about EAW loudspeakers to potential buyers, customers, and users. Recent developments by EAW in the areas of measurements, analysis, and processing of measured acoustical data prompted EAW Engineering to review its specification process. It was felt that the improved levels of accuracy, quality, and breadth of engineering data could be better represented to our customers. In addition, the specification process was analyzed as to its harmonization with industry standards and practices in terms of content, accuracy, and quality of specifications. It is well known that no recognized standards exist for measuring and specifying complete, user-ready professional loudspeakers. However, this did not change the need to produce specifications based on such a standard. The solution was developing and implementing a comprehensive standard for specifying EAW professional loudspeakers: System Specification Standard or S3. Rather than invent a proprietary standard for our own purposes, S3 relies heavily on elements from applicable existing standards. More importantly, it is incorporates definitions, measurements, data processing, and result formatting from drafts of loudspeaker measurement standards from the AES and ISO. The primary goal of S3 is to provide objective, accurate, and comprehensive professional loudspeaker specifications. |
