Someone You Should Know: Scott Pizzo

Scott Rock.jpgFour years have gone by pretty quickly since Scott Pizzo joined EAW to provide invaluable sales services in the U.S., and much more. He's definitely an EAW person you should know, and we recently got him to sit down for this Q & A. (Scott is pictured at left just "a few years ago" in full musician mode.)

What does your work with EAW entail?

Scott: Sales (go figure); traveling with our independent sales reps (best in the land); product demonstrations; working with dealers on designs; interfacing with consultants and end users; and solving problems.

What's your favorite aspect of working with EAW?

Scott: I have the privilege of working with cutting-edge products and the brightest, most passionate people in the pro audio industry. Another thing I really like is that I get to meet and talk with inspiring (and sometimes insane, in a good way!) folks from all over the country, and learn from them. My position has afforded me the opportunity to make some close friends across the U.S. and mix a great band or two as well.

Tell us about your previous audio-related experiences.

Scott: Let's see, I've been a product specialist for Lexicon as well as a live sound mixer, wire puller, in retail pro audio sales, and a studio owner (back when you had to have a 2-inch machine!). I was also assistant engineer at 321 Studios in New York City (the old Record Plant) - and - a full-time musician.

What's your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Scott: Spend time with my wife, Julie (still haven’t figured out why she married me), our son Anthony, almost 9, and our daughter Rachel, 4 months. Oh, and I can't forget to mention Earl the Killer Parakeet, 2 years old.

Any hobbies?

Scott: Singing and playing guitar with my band; mixing various local and national artists on my EAW rigs; playing baseball with my son; dusting off and occasionally riding my motorcycle; and going mountain biking. (Scott is pictured at right in an earlier incarnation as rock 'n' roll idol.)

Best rock 'n' roll band ever?

Scott: Led Zeppelin.

What's the best live show you've heard/seen, and why?

Scott: Radiohead, OK Computer Tour, Harbor Lights/Boston 1997. The performance, song choice, sound, and lights were simply amazing. Radiohead actually said that was one of their best shows ever in a subsequent Rolling Stone magazine article.

What's your favorite EAW product?

Scott: Wow, it's tough to choose just one. So I won't. KF730, KF300z, and the NT Series, for its compact form factor and pleasure to mix on.

Trade shows are ... ?

Scott: The best way to see if your shoes and immune system are any good.

What's the most overlooked yet beneficial aspect of EAW?

Scott: Our engineering department. These folks are rock stars - some of the friendliest, most accessible and knowledgeable people you’ll ever meet. EAW products do what the spec sheet says they’ll do (and sound superb doing it) because of these people.

Last question. What was the best thing before sliced bread?

Scott: Beer…Or going back further…Fire - so you could brew beer.
