Big KF System Down Under... And A UX8800 Trial Run!
A recent two-day ministry outreach by Nicky Cruz in Sydney, Australia drew thousands to Acer Arena, served by a large-scale sound system provided by Norwest Productions that featured an impressive collection of loudspeakers highlighting the depth and versatility of the EAW KF Series line. And, the event also served as a demo of the soon-coming EAW UX8800 digital processor outfitted with Gunness Focusing technology.
The large-scale system consisted of a mix of KF760/761 line arrays as well as KF730small line arrays, KF750 full-range concert system and SB1000 subwoofers. Expertly put together by Norwest Productions, working closely with the event sound designer, these components provided their usual top-notch performance in supplying dynamic coverage to the entire 21,000-plus capacity arena.
But the biggest news was the UX8800 evaluation. EAW's James Bamlett, on hand with the new EAW processors, provides this first-hand account: "The sound designer and system engineer agreed to allow the running of one side of the KF760's on the UX8800's on the morning of the second show. The other side was processed on premium processing units, and had been tuned for the show. It was sounding very good as it was, and the designer was very pleased with the system."
James continues: "We went in and plugged the system inputs straight into a UX8800 loaded up with factory settings, with no additional EQ applied. The array consisted of 16 x KF760, and I set up the top eight cabinets with a separate HF feed for long throw. We were covering from approximately 50 feet out to 300 feet.
"The immediate impression was the clarity of the vocals on the track chosen by the system guys. In an A-B comparison of the two sides of the system, this was even more apparent. The consistency in level and response of the system throughout the room was also remarkable. Everyone we spoke to was very impressed and agreed that the sound was much more 'open' with the UX8800."
