Montreal Landmark Upgrades to EAW

A world renowned nightlife landmark in Montreal, Quebec has recently reopened its doors after months of renovations and upgrades which included the installation of a large quantity of EAW and EAW-Commercial untitledloudspeakers. Located in the heart of Montreal’s dining and entertainment district on Crescent Street, Sir Winston Churchill Pub’s technical upgrades were designed and completed by La Galerie Audio-Video and included a complete overhaul of the pub’s main and distributed audio loudspeakers, amplification and audio networking infrastructures to offer patrons the best quality sound throughout the entire facility.

“One of the stipulations we had when we took on this project was that the owners of the pub must let us spec and install only the best and highest quality products. That’s why we went with EAW and EAW-Commercial loudspeakers”, explains Sam Sorce of La Galerie Audio-Video. “We required a sound system with distinctive and spectacular sound and the look of class that is in line with the new style of Sir Winston’s. We’re extremely proud and confident that this is definitely one of the best sounding systems on the entire strip”.

Sir Winston Churchill Pub’s official reopening occurred during the F1Grand Prix weekend festivities on Crescent Street where tens of thousands packed the pubs, restaurants and streets over a period of three days. The completely new audio system boasts EAW Avalon DC5 loudspeakers on the dance floor, and 16 VR62 and 6 SB150zPs throughout their bar, main entrance and VIP locations. Powered by QSC amplifiers and distributed via SymNet audio networks, this system far exceeds the establishment’s owners expectations and has garnered much praise for Galerie Audio Video and EAW loudspeakers.

EAW’s loudspeakers’ reputation of outstanding sonic quality and ease of installation and operation has also attracted the attention of other establishments on the strip and throughout the area. Other restaurants, pubs and club owners are now contacting “Galerie” regarding their design and installation services and EAW loudspeakers and products to replace or upgrade their current audio infrastructures.

Exhibo & HIFI Di Prinzio restore Roccaraso Ice Arena's PA System

P1000310.jpg

Roccaraso is a well known mountain resort in central Italy, inside the Abruzzo National Park.
Its ice arena had to be restored and the municipality assigned the works to HIFI Di Prinzio, one of Italy's leading companies in domestic high-end audio, who is investing and rapidly growing also as a professional audio contractor.

Exhibo, the Italian distributor for EAW, accepted the hard challenge to design the PA system for this hall. The arena had all the possible acoustic problems: high reverberation time, due to the ice surface, concave ceilings and last but not least, glass walls on the short sides. Plus, these halls will not only serve as a hockey stadium but also as a disco on ice.

Mino Di Prinzio, owner of HIFI Di Prinzio and Exhibo took on the challenge of presenting the project to the municipality by referencing a huge list of EAW developed athletic venues.

Guido Diamanti – system designer in Exhibo – explains: “from our side, we concentrated in splitting all the problems, thus privileging the best speech intelligibility on the stands and the high and band-wide sound pressure level on the ice rink, so we proposed a distributed system, made with MK8126 and MK8196 installed close to the stands and a row of MK5394 and SB250 aligned on the ceiling, just to cover the ice surface and decrease reflections on the glass sidewalls. Then, with the help of the versatile EAW DX810, we prepared some presets for the different kind of activity, with different time alignments and levels.”P1000322.JPG

Exhibo used (6) EAW MK8126 (4) EAW MK8196 (4) EAW5394 (2) EAW SB250 (1) EAW DX810 with remote panels (2) Ecler amps DPA2000 (2) Ecler amps DPA2500T (1) Ecler am DPA4000T and (2) Sennheiser wireless mics to complete this project.

Upcoming Smaart Training Classes

Smaart6_header.jpg

Rational Acoustics, providers of consulting services and professional training in sound system optimization will be conducting various Smaart classes in the upcoming months.

Miami, FL
10/13 & 14 "Smaart Fundamentals & Applications"
10/15 "Smaart Advanced User"

Atlanta, GA
11/18 & 19 "Smaart Fundamentals & Applications"
11/20 "Smaart Advanced User"

Smaart Fundamentals & Applications:
This course covers the fundamentals of setting up a Smaart measurement rig and using Smaart to make basic RTA, Spectrograph, Transfer Function and Impulse Response measurements. Special attention is paid throughout the course to the subject of how to make valid and useful measurements, as opposed to simply making cool squiggly lines appear on the screen.

Smaart Advanced User
This course covers advanced topics in the application of Smaart, AcousticTools and other measurement tools and platforms (as appropriate) for system alignment and response optimization. These sessions seek to advance the synergy between an engineer and their measurement tools, concentrating heavily on measurement choices, data interpretation and alignment decisions/compromises. Advanced sessions are held in actual performance venues to ensure appropriate “real world” data acquisition and interpretation practice.

First NTL720 Delivered in Europe!

FrigerioExhibo S.p.A. is pleased to announce that the first EAW NTL 720 line array system in Europe has been delivered to Milan rental firm Star Service, a long-time user of the US manufacturer’s products (since 1992).  Dario and Alberto Frigerio, owners of the prestigious Milan rental company, explain the reasons behind their choice:

   Frigerio with the NTL720

“We asked to try out the system as soon as news leaked out regarding its existence; the first unofficial photos taken at a US expo and the first technical descriptions filtering through the blanket of secrecy EAW imposed on the product…"

Then there was the eagerly awaited announcement that production had begun and the inevitably long waiting list for all those who had requested it all throughout the world.” Dario Frigerio explains the story behind his latest purchase: “…Then, thanks to the commitment of Exhibo, EAW’s Italian distributor, we managed to test the first system that arrived in Europe.
As long-time EAW users, we wanted to confirm that this new system, with its unusual dimensions and on-board technology, performed like its important predecessors, which we use on an on-going basis for our work: the impressive evergreen KF 750, used for events held in large outdoor venues, the versatile KF 650, which were the first EAW products we bought, the KF 730, which we consider one of  the best line arrays in its class, and the small JF 260, JF 100 and JF 88, which enable us to finish off our set-ups with the with the same high standards.”

“The demo was held in a large cinema theatre to recreate as precisely as possible the customary working conditions for this loudspeaker enclosure system” Exhibo’s EAW product Manager Edoardo Ravelli adds: “…The participation of EAW Application Support Group specialist Steve Badham ensured us a better understanding of the countless possibilities at sound engineers’ disposal for controlling the system.”

Ravelli+Frigerio 2 142_4289.jpg
In fact, while a precise project strategy chosen by the EAW team means that the sound generated by the NTL 720 as it comes out the box might seem particularly neutral without any colouring of the sound (thanks to the Gunness Focusing technology, already experimented successfully on the NT series), the endless control possibilities offered by EAW Pilot software enable sound engineers to create exactly the sound they want, adjusting all the system’s parameters - even the details of the individual enclosures in the cluster. All by means of U-net, the EAW proprietary protocol that enables audio and data to be transported via CAT5 cable.”

Dario Frigerio continues: “Once we’d verified the quality of the rig and familiarized with the controls, we decided to buy this product and continue to use it with satisfaction for all our projects requiring very high quality audio performance and low on-site visual impact, such as fashion parades by top stylists, conventions by important companies, etc….  We obviously also intend using the NTL 720 for music shows, concerts, musicals, etc…"

The feature that struck us most with this product is the possibility it offers sound engineers of customizing and tailoring even the smallest details in their system’s sound.  We’re really proud to be the first to have the EAW NTL 720.

Thanks to the level of technology integrated, it’s one of the most advanced sound reinforcement systems currently on the market – and it sounds really great.”

EAW Honors European Distributors

UK - EAW recently honored this year's top distributors in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region with an awards ceremony, held during PLASA08 in London.

Receiving Distributor of the Year honors was Barcelona-based Pro3 & Co., EAW's distributor for Spain. Petah Tikva-based Pro Touch, EAW's Israeli distributor, won Most Improved Distributor. EAW's distributor for the Netherlands, Amsterdam-based Holland PA Services BV, won Most Consistent Distributor. The awards were presented by European sales manager Sean Martin during the company's annual EMEA Distributor Meeting at the Chelsea Football Stadium.

Martin credits these key distributors, as well as the entire EAW EMEA sales force, with producing record numbers in the first half of 2008. He had particularly complimentary things to say about each of this year's three award winners.

PLASAPRO3.jpg"Pro3 has been EAW Europe's number one distributor in terms of sales for the past few years. They have a great team who fully support and represent the brand exactly as it should be, so it is no surprise that this effort and enthusiasm is reflected in their stellar results.

PLASAprotouch.jpg

"Pro Touch finds homes for a remarkable amount of EAW product in Israel. Their increase in sales volume in recent years is nothing short of meteoric. No stone is left unturned by Pro Touch.

PLASAHOLLAND.jpg

"Holland PA is one of EAW's most long-standing distributors, and regardless of market or industry ups and downs, their performance never drops. They are possibly the archetypal distributor model to which all distributors should aspire."

Martin continued, "These awards reflect EAW's commitment and personal relationship with the distributor/sales force in the EMEA region. No one works harder than our distributors, and they help us post the numbers to prove it. These award-winners set a high bar, and I look forward to working with our entire team of distributors to match and surpass it through the rest of 2008 and into 2009."

EAW Makes Two New European Appointments

EAW has made two new personnel changes to the EAW Europe Sales and Application Support Group (ASG). The appointments were announced by Sean Martin, director of EAW European Operations.

KevinKevin McNally will be joining EAW Europe as the U.K. sales manager. He will be responsible for all sales activities in the U.K. territory for both live and installed applications. He comes to EAW from an active career in installed sound design, including a stint at Metropolis AV and FX in Surrey. "EAW is one of the most respected names in pro audio and seems to have a solution for every application," says McNally. "I am really looking forward to working with such a well rounded product line and helping the brand expand its presence in the U.K. market.

Previous U.K. sales manager, Moray McMillin, has taken over European ASG duties. He has been looking after U.K. sales for the past two years and now moves his talents to the support of the entire PhotobucketEMEA region from the technical application standpoint. In over three decades of international touring, McMillin has worked with the likes of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Public Image Ltd. and, on the softer side, Suzanne Vega. "I am really looking forward to getting my hands dirty playing with gear full-time again," he says. "Sales is fun, but I'm a gear-head at heart."

Comments Martin on the moves, "We are thrilled to have Kevin on board with EAW. His wealth of experience in the U.K. contracting market will be a hugely beneficial addition to our sales efforts, and I have every confidence that he will serve the U.K. market with the passion and professionalism that people have come to expect from the EAW brand. And with Moray now taking over the European ASG function, we can all rest easy that there will not be a technical question or design challenge anywhere that will go unanswered. Moray is one of the best in the business at what he does, and our customers will surely benefit from that."
