EAW Ships Six New SMS Series Wall Mount Speaker Models

EAW, a world leader in audio system solutions for the past 30 years, announces that it has rounded out its new SMS Series of Wall Mount Speakers with the release of six models, available immediately. These include EAW’s SMS1990, SMS2124, SMS2990, SMS4124, SMS4940 and SMS4990. EAW’s SMS Series loudspeakers are designed for a wide range of foreground, background and paging applications. All models incorporate sophisticated electro-acoustic technologies that provide optimum directionality, high output levels and pristine sound quality, along with a proprietary mounting system affording an unprecedented level of installation ease.

At the heart of each SMS Series two-way loudspeaker is EAW’s proprietary Theta Technology™, which utilizes tuned driver spacing to create low-frequency (LF) pattern control by placing pairs of smaller woofers symmetrically around the high-frequency (HF) subsystem. The spaced woofers maintain pattern control into the LF range to complement the wide-by-narrow coverage delivered by the specially designed HF subsystems. The result is wide, well-controlled horizontal patterns, meaning fewer loudspeakers are needed per project.

Further, the well-controlled vertical patterns allow the installer to easily avoid projecting sound onto ceilings and other highly reflective surfaces, while transient response is optimized for maximum intelligibility, with high efficiency translating to lower power requirements. (A variety of coverage dispersion options are available.)EAW_SMSSeriesGroup

Six models currently make up the series:
SMS1990 – 2 x 3-inch LF, 1 x 1.3-inch HF
SMS2124 – 4 x 3-inch LF, 2 x 2-inch HF
SMS2990 – 4 x 3-inch LF, 1 x 1.3-inch HF
SMS4124 – 4 x 4-inch LF, 3 x 2-inch HF
SMS4940 – 4 x 4-inch LF, 3 x 2-inch HF
SMS4990 – 4 x 4-inch LF, 1 x 1.3-inch HF

SMS2124 and SMS4124 models feature a 120º x 40º coverage pattern. The SMS4940 features a 90º x 40º coverage pattern. The SMS1990, SMS2990 and SMS4990 models feature a 90º x 90º coverage pattern.

SMS Series loudspeakers also feature Clip-Fit™, a new proprietary mounting system. All connections for the loudspeaker are contained within the Clip-Fit wall-mount unit via a single Molex connector, with the wall-mount unit pre-mounted at the designed position on a wall. The installer then just “clips” the loudspeakers on to the Clip-Fit arm, and in one motion, the audio connection is terminated and the loudspeaker is live. The wall-mount unit also provides a pan/tilt positioning range for precise aiming.

For basic installations, SMS loudspeakers are also provided with U-brackets, allowing conventional wiring methods and adjustment of the loudspeaker’s down-tilt. Cabinets (as well as Clip-Fit mounts) are offered in a choice of black or white cabinet colors.

In addition, two versions of the Clip-Fit mounting system are available. The CF-TX includes a low-loss transformer for high impedance 70-Volt/100-Volt applications, with tap settings selectable via a switch on the front of the Clip-Fit unit. The CF-LZ provides straight-through connection for low impedance applications.

EAW’s SMS Series Surface-Mount Loudspeakers are now available.

Expo Zaragoza 2008’s Iceberg: Visual Poetic Symphony Dazzles with Sound from EAW

Expo Zaragoza 2008 recently wrapped its three-month run, and one of the Expo’s artistic centerpieces, Iceberg: Visual Poetic Symphony, dazzled the festival’s crowds with the help of products from EAW, a world leader in audio system solutions. Spanish EAW distributor Pro 3 & Co. S.A. handled the sale and implementation of EAW products for the Expo.

Expo 2008 was an international exposition coordinated by the Bureau of International Expositions, the organization responsible for sanctioning World’s Fairs. With EAW_ExpoZ_1“Water and Sustainable Development” and “Climate Change” as the festival’s central themes, the nightly multimedia piece Iceberg put global ecological issues to a poetic, beautiful and simple, yet moving, artistic display. The piece involved a gigantic iceberg sculpture in the River Ebro, with a dialogue of images and sounds over the course of the 21-minute runtime, representing mankind’s struggle to preserve the planet. Award-winning Catalonian theater company FOCUS produced the show, which ran for 93 nights at the Expo. The show was a success, in part due to the powerful, reliable sound provided by EAW loudspeakers and subwoofers.

The show’s outdoor nature required enough sound to project throughout the festival, yet the arrays needed to be inconspicuous enough so as to not be visually distracting, which reEAW_ExpoZ_2quired careful planning and construction. Behind the sculpture were two towers, each consisting of three clusters of eight EAW KF760 Long-Throw Line Array Modules (48 modules total). The system was complemented by 12 EAW SB1000z Large Format Subwoofers on each side. Inside the sculpture was a stereo arrangement of 18 KF750z High Output Array Loudspeakers (9 per side). To the rear of the public viewing area were located 36 EAW JFX260 Compact Full-Range Loudspeakers. Amplification for all EAW products was provided by Lab.gruppen amps.

Dani Homs, Sound Technician in charge of the event, stated, “Our main concern was to deliver a precise and powerful sound to the audience, all of whom were situated more than 170 meters away, across the Ebro River. And of course, we needed to provide them excellent sound quality. Thanks to EAW KF Series systems, we got a massive, clear sound quality every night.”

January Smaart Training Classes in Seattle

Rational Acoustics, providers of consulting services and professional training in sound system optimization will be conducting Smaart classes in Seattle in January, 2009.

training

Seattle, WA - January 13-15 2009

Overlake Christian Church, Redmond WA

Day 1 & 2:  Smaart Fundamentals & Applications

Day 3:        Advanced Practicum

Smaart Fundamentals & Applications:
This course covers the fundamentals of setting up a Smaart measurement rig and using Smaart to make basic RTA, Spectrograph, Transfer Function and Impulse Response measurements. Special attention is paid throughout the course to the subject of how to make valid and useful measurements, as opposed to simply making cool squiggly lines appear on the screen.

Advanced Practicum:
This course covers advanced topics in the application of Smaart, AcousticTools and other measurement tools and platforms (as appropriate) for system alignment and response optimization. These sessions seek to advance the synergy between an engineer and their measurement tools, concentrating heavily on measurement choices, data interpretation and alignment decisions/compromises. Advanced sessions are held in actual performance venues to ensure appropriate “real world” data acquisition and interpretation practice.
