The Blue Martini Lounge has locations in Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Miami, Naples, Orlando, Phoenix/Scottsdale, Tampa and West Palm Beach. To keep the patios full of music, Blue Martini has chosen the SMS2124B Surface Mount Loudspeaker from EAW, a world leader in loudspeaker solutions. Thus far, Blue Martini's club location in West Palm Beach has already installed the SMS2124B speaker in its patio area, bringing the Blue Martini experience to patrons enjoying the great weather. SMS2124B's will be installed in the other locations in the coming months, and future Blue Martini Lounges scheduled for other markets will open with SMS2124B's already installed. "These are the best small loudspeakers for this type of application," says Tom Griffin, President of Griffin Automation of Port St. Lucie, Florida, which handles the lighting for the Blue Martini locations in Florida and is doing many of the EAW SMS2124B patio upgrades, including the one at the Miami location. Next on the schedule are the Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando clubs, which will each have a dozen SMS2124B speakers encircling the patio areas, allowing patrons to enjoy a seamless transition between inside and out. According to Griffin, the suggestion to install SMS2124B's was made by Blue Martini's Byron Gardner, who encountered the SMS2124B in a club in Tampa and decided then and there that it was the best-sounding small speaker he had ever heard, and that it would be the patio speaker for all of his Lounges, replacing the existing systems from another manufacturer. "It's a good, full-range speaker that brings great sound and good low frequencies to a patio environment," says Griffin, adding that the weather-resistant loudspeaker is also robust and easy to install, thanks to EAW's proprietary Clip-FitTM system. "It's a great single-speaker solution."
The inclusion of a live to air Top of the Pops Special in this years Biennial Comic Relief charity fundraising TV show gave us the opportunity to deploy EAW’s newest and most compact JFL210 line array, and thus giving it its' UK Television debut. The show was filmed in Studio 4 at the BBC Television Centre in London and featured performances from Franz Ferdinand, Flo-Rida, Oasis, Take That, Rob, Ruth & Tom Jones and an acoustic performance from James Morrison. In all, sixteen JFL210 cabinets in four hangs, coupled with eight SB730 cabinets on the ground, were used in the studio for audience sound. We used EAW JH-15 wedges for both stages and the central performance area. “Rigging the JFL210 hangs was a breeze," commented JHL staff engineer Simon Panos, who looked after the audience sound for the show. “The studio hoists have a maximum capacity of 112kg, so each hang of four including a flybar come in at a total of 109kg which made everyone happy. Additionally, once the four hangs were in the air, the sound was pin sharp and needed very little additional tuning. The FB121 flybar gave us the flexibility to rake the hang just how we needed it. The system was very versatile and had amazing coverage in spite of the cluttered ceiling space it inhabited." Fellow engineers, Robin Tombs and Aden Gregory were equally enthusiastic about the systems’s hi-fi sound and ease of use; pronouncing it perfect for the job in hand.

India’s leading professional audio, lighting and truss rental Company Rich Audio delivered superior audio quality for recently staged “I Have a Dream” concert held at the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai. Rich Audio was chosen amongst other well-known rental companies to provide complete system solution which comprised of the EAW KF760 line array, 38 Sennheiser wireless microphones, four Sennheiser in-ear monitors and complete communication systems comprising of a dozen walky talkies and multi channel intercom system. Rich Audio has been working with theatrical productions for many years. It was only a matter of putting the right techniques that were learnt over the years and the right products to use. The event was produced and directed by Raell Padamsee’s ACE Production. Through various discussions with the ACE Productions team, Rich Audio’s Senior Engineer Lee Braganza understood their requirements of multiple scenes and dialogue deliveries, thus creating a need for a large quantity of wireless microphones. Not only was the cast of the concert a whooping 1000 children, there were dialogue deliveries within 30 seconds of each scene change, thus not leaving even the slightest space for error. After perfect timing and scene management with respect to act and use of microphones, Lee Braganza decided to use a total of 34 Sennheiser head-worn wireless microphones, four handheld wireless microphones and four in-ear monitors for the event. "For FOH, we used the Sound-Craft MH-2 audio mixing console for main system mix and the EAW KF 760 line array system controlled by the EAW UX8800 system processor and powered by crown Macro-Tech I amplifiers. The EAW KF760 system like always delivers even coverage and excellent sound quality through out the audience area," added Zura Braganza. Rich Audio executed the show with outstanding precision, thanks to the quick and accurate management by FOH engineer Lee Braganza, who with his team of engineers Constansio D’souza and Amnish Lohire controlled 42 wireless devices and multiple change overs at the same time without any glitches. Every performer’s dialogue was clearly audible even at the last row, thus making the event a grand experience for audience and crew. The event was a running success with compliments from all sides of the ground comprising of the audience, production crew and the Ambani’s.
The 7th Annual Club World Award winners have been announced and among the winners is Ruby Skye, who took home a “Disco Globe” for Best Club. The beautiful 15,000 sq. foot club, housed in a converted Victorian style theater in the heart of San Francisco, routinely hosts world class DJs and has been nominated by Dancestar as one of the top five nightclubs. The one-of-a-kind sound system is based on the EAW's Avalon Series and was designed and installed by JK Sound's Mike Lacina. In order to further enhance the already impressive output of the Avalon system, EAW worked with Lacina to customize Ruby Skye's Avalon DC1 boxes with components found in some of the higher output touring systems such as the EAW KF Series. The resulting system utilizes over 30 customized and standard Avalon products and offers up crystal-clear, even coverage with outstanding amounts of body-shaking bass. In addition to winning the coveted “Best Club” award, Ruby Skye was awarded the “Disco Globe” for “Best Sound” in 2006. Congratulations, Ruby Skye! Keep on rockin!
Earlier this week, the finalists for the System Contractor News and InfoComm International 2009 Installation Product Award finalists were revealed and EAW's commercial line of SMS Series Surface Mount Loudspeakers are among the contenders in the "Most Innovative Loudspeaker for Commercial Installation" category. Product Manager, Dave Raneses stated that, "By utilizing our years of experience in the design and manufacturing of large format loudspeakers, we were able to create a family of small format solutions with the wavefront coherency, exceptional pattern control, and directional performance that is often needed in commercial installations. We're honored to be nominated." The SMS Series loudspeakers apply EAW's proprietary Theta Technology, which utilizes tuned driver spacing to create LF pattern control by placing pairs of smaller woofers symmetrically around the HF subsystem. The spaced woofers maintain pattern control into the LF range, complementing the wide-by-narrow coverage delivered by the HF subsystems. Vote Now!
The recently-opened Dubai Mall in Dubai, U.A.E., is one of the largest malls in the world, boasting 1,200 retail outlets, two department stores and more than 160 food and beverage vendors. The mall’s 220-store “Gold Souk” is an elaborately decorated area used for special events by the U.A.E. Royal Family and other dignitaries, in addition to serving as an impressive entertainment area for mall visitors. The Gold Souk features a 75-foot diameter domed super high-resolution projection screen (designed by Salt Lake City-based Evans and Sutherland Digital Theaters Group) raised 40 feet above the floor, which necessitated powerful and clear audio. The design of the area presented acoustical challenges, all of which were met with a custom system featuring EAW AX Series Loudspeakers and some unique architectural solutions. The system was designed by Indianapolis, IN-based firm Bowen Technovation. Because of the visual nature of the space, loudspeakers needed to be as low-profile as possible, and this was accomplished by flying the units behind the perforated aluminum projection dome, completely out of sight. The system was engineered to include eight custom EAW AX Series “BWN” 2x15" enclosures, two EAW AX366 Arrayable Install Loudspeakers and eight EAW SB150z Compact Subwoofers. The system offers 5.1 audio powered by 38,000 Watts of QSC DCA amplification. Processing is accomplished via a networked BSS Soundweb London system. The project presented sonic difficulties: “The throw from the top of the dome to the floor is 75 feet, and we needed to achieve very high impact SPL but with perfect pattern control and instrumental clarity,” stated Jeff Bowen, Bowen Technovation President and Creative Director. “In addition to the challenges of providing 5.1 audio inside a concave dome, the surfaces in the area are very high-end marble and custom-sculpted plaster. So keeping audio off the surfaces and focused on the listener was imperative, otherwise we would just have been exciting air needlessly and destroying intelligibility.” EAW product specialists worked together with Bowen Technovation through design, prototyping and production of the custom AX Series BWN boxes, which have since been used on this install in addition to several other projects. Jeff Bowen could not be more thrilled: “The result is these loudspeakers with extremely high SPL yet incredibly detailed and accurate response. I can’t wait to get them out there in more spaces.”
