Super Sub Technology
The EAW Super Sub contains a usable response down to 21 Hz powered
by 12 inch transducers. Super Sub is implemented for dramatic
LF effects. The Super Sub consists of eight KF940 enclosures
each of which are 51 in deep, 36 in wide and 32 in high. The
power response is essentially flat, but its directivity leads
to a gently rising response shape, producing maximum continuous
outputs at 1 m of 148 dB at 25 Hz and 156 dB at 100 Hz. By definition
a horn is a transformer whose input power is determined by the
combination of transducer motor power (the magnet structure)
and cone area. The design concept was to increase both by using
more motors driving smaller cones. In this case, the transducer
motors are the same as used for similarly designed 15 inch transducers.
This has the additional benefit in improving transient response
by reducing the mass being driven by each motor.
