Cathay Cineplexes Singapore

Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd (E&E), an industry leader in cinema and audio-visual system integration, installed an Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) sound reinforcement system into Singapore’s 10-screen multiplex, Cathay Cineplex Jem, for its Digital Xtreme hall – which features the cinema chain’s first-ever incorporation of Dolby Atmos technology.

Reported to be ‘the largest movie screen in the west,’ the Digital Xtreme hall boasts 278 seats and 46 Dolby Atmos channels, in addition to a 13.6m by 7.2m extra large cinema screen.

The EAW cinema speaker system used in this installation complies with the Dolby® Atmos™ requirements for speaker configuration and the positioning metadata of the audio stream to optimize 46 channels of playback in the Digital Xtreme hall, including overhead speakers.

“Our cinema engineers have a wealth of experience and are Dolby® trained to ensure that we are able to meet all the necessary Dolby® Atmos™ requirements,” said Ronald Goh, Managing Director for Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd. “We are confident that this will undoubtedly appeal to movie-goers, as the new sound platform will be a truly unforgettable experience.”

“This marks another significant milestone for Cathay Cineplexes as we continue to offer revolutionary systems and creative content to our patrons to ensure the most epic movie experiences,” said Mr. Suhaimi Rafdi, Chief Executive Officer of Cathay Organization.

Cathay Cineplexes is a “choice destination” showing the best new films with state-of-the-art technology, including digital projection and Singapore’s only THX-certified halls. Along with their added level of customer service, the multiplexes make movie-going a luxurious night out. Already a leading multiplex operator in Singapore, the company envisions making Cathay Cineplexes a leading multiplex operator in all of Southeast Asia.
