Gardens By The Bay
Electronics & Engineering Pte, Ltd. installed a substantial EAW speaker system at Gardens by the Bay, a conservatory complex located by the Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore. Comprised of the Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central waterfront gardens, the 101-hectare complex is home to two energy efficient conservatories named the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest. As the installer of more than 6,000 speakers into the Marina Bay Sands resort, E&E returned to provide a sound system for supplying ambient music into each of the domes.
Approximately 80 EAW SMS4 weatherproof speakers now reside amongst orchids, cacti and other plants in the domes, which require irrigation and moisture to thrive. Waterproof and weather-resistant boxes were a necessity here, making the SMS4s perfectly suited for the project. Operating in 70V line mode, the black 5-inch speakers are equipped with built-in multi-tap transformers and are attached to ground-based adjustable brackets.
E&E also outfitted the park’s large, tree-like vertical gardens known as Supertrees—beautiful structures that provide shade during the day and dazzle people with light and sound by night. For the daily sounds of nature and the nightly music and light shows emanating from the Supertrees, E&E installed 48 channels of sound via 48 EAW MK8196i 8-inch loudspeakers, supported by 12 SB180zP-WP 18-inch cone subwoofers.
However, as the centerpiece of the Supertree Grove, the Main Supertree needed a little extra wow factor. To complement its 36 MK8196i cabinets and 36 SB180zP-WP subwoofers, E&E added two EAW QX596WP cabinets, allowing the Main Supertree to impress the crowds with a realistic reproduction of a loud thunderstorm crack followed by a low rumbling from the supporting subwoofers. The power of the QX596WP cabinets outputs sound levels in excess of 90dB 30 meters away from the Supertree, allowing the Grove to host musical events.
